Dramaturgical Research/Program Articles

Vickie was the resident Research Dramaturg at TheatreWorks Silicon Valley for twelve seasons. While there she researched over 100 productions of all types, comedies, dramas, musicals, new works, and established scripts from Sarah Ruhl to Arthur Miller to Shakespeare. In addition to her research, she wrote over 200 articles for programs newsletters, and study guides; led post show discussions; conducted interviews with various members of the shows' casts and staff; and trained numerous interns, several of whom have gone on to be Dramaturgs themselves.

She is also a freelance Dramaturg working on both new and established plays. All productions below were done at TheatreWorks unless otherwise noted. Show titles that appear as links connect to a sample article or other material from that production.

“As a Director and Actor I have been able to commit confidently to a diverse body of projects (Crowns, Intimate Apparel, Grey Gardens, Radio Golf, The Mountaintop) knowing that I am supported by Vickie’s passionately incisive and thorough dramaturgy. She is always available to engage in informed discussions, research those unusual questions that always come up during the rehearsal process with a smile and provides an arsenal of research materials. She’s a joy to work with!” --Anthony J. Haney

"Vickie's binders of dramaturgical material are legendary. They comprehensively cover every aspect of the playwright, the piece, and the era. Her work allows us to find out all kinds of crazy tidbits that serve the work that we would never have the time to find on our own. Given the amount of work those binders represent, I completely understand why she asks us not to take anything out! I've seen her work get saved and used on other theaters' productions as well; it's just that good."--actor Brian Herndon

"Vickie is always a deeply committed presence in any rehearsal room I have shared with her. I have gained insight from her incredible attention to detail and on many occasions have felt my work expand with the help of her input and clarity. Aside from her brilliance in dramaturgy, I have found Vickie's directorial viewpoint of enormous value at every stage of the rehearsal process. Her kindness and humor in every situation is a bonus!"--actor Rebecca Dines
