This world premiere one-woman play was adapted from first person oral accounts of Kuwaiti women who lived in Kuwait City during the Iraqi occupation in 1990-91. The dramaturgy consisted of extensive research into the the period, the causes of the war, and the effects on the Kuwaiti people who remained, a large percentage of whom were women, many with small children. It also included active participation in the adaptation of the script both during a workshop week and during the rehearsal period.

"Vickie is a tremendous dramaturg. Her research for We Made Bread was thorough, relevant, and instrumental in helping me to develop the script. Her observations and suggestions on the text were always insightful and much appreciated. If we had questions in rehearsal about the history of the region, she was able to quickly obtain answers for us. Vickie is an intelligent and generous addition to the room, and I feel so grateful to have worked with her on We Made Bread." --Playwright Jennifer Le Blanc

"Vickie is the most thorough dramaturg I have had the privilege to work with as an actor, director, or producer. Her research is extensive without being overwhelming. Vickie has the wonderful ability to admit when she does not know something, and then pursues the answer with a relentless resolve. I cannot think of another dramaturg I would rather work with." --Artistic Director William J. Brown, III

"In a relatively short time Vickie managed to earn the trust of the playwright for our world premiere play, and became essential to the development of the piece."--Artistic Director William J. Brown, III
